St Patrick’s Day Crafts

St Patrick’s Day occurs on the 17th of March and is one of the biggest saint days to celebrate. It is essential for SBMs to be prepared for the celebrations in their school. SBMs need to ensure they have plenty of materials in stock that can be used for the day. A great way for schools to celebrate is through crafting.

We have outlined a few easy St Patrick’s Day crafts that you can guide your staff to use in their lessons. We have even added some you can create to decorate your school or give to your staff. You can also find the materials you will need to stock up on for the day to ensure that every class has enough supplies for these crafts.

Gnome planters

As an SBM, it is crucial to think of ways for your school to be eco-friendlier. St Patrick’s Day is the perfect celebration to make a positive contribution. With the help of your staff, create some St Patrick’s gnome planters that you can plant flowers, small trees or bushes in and display in and around the school.

Stock up on our decorate your own flowerpots and get creative with your staff. You can encourage your staff to do this with their students too as a celebration activity. Paint the pots green and use a green piece of card to create a hat to cover the top of the plant pot.

Stock up on cotton wool and pom poms to create the finishing touches of a beard and a nose. Glue the wool onto the bottom of the hat (or the lip of the plant pot) and stick a pom pom directly onto the beard. Help your staff to display them in corridors, doorways, halls and on the grounds to get your school in the St Patrick’s spirit.

Clover ornament

Guide your staff to create clover ornaments with their students so that they can decorate the school and classrooms. Ensure to have plenty of green tissue paper so each class can have a go at making a clover ornament. Have a variety of paper and card to choose from to create the clover, and glue for the pieces of tissue paper to be stuck onto the clover.

Encourage staff to let students create different-sized clovers and have them displayed around the school. Create a clover-themed display board in the corridors and hang the tissue paper clovers around the edge, creating a border.

Sponge art

A plethora of different pieces of art will be done across your school, depending on what your staff thinks suits their class best. It is always good to be prepared for all skill levels and ages for your school to enjoy doing their St Patrick’s Day crafts.

Sponge art is extremely popular with younger students and gives any child the freedom to create whatever they like. Plus, it can be very fun getting a little messy. Provide your staff with sponges and sponge dip bowls so they can use them to do some St Patrick’s art.

Don’t forget to bulk buy green paint and other colours that fit the day so that you don’t run out. Many of your staff will be using paint a lot for the run-up to and the day and your school will need extra to use for other activities after.

Recycled leprechaun

Help your school strive towards a greener future by encouraging staff to do more recycled crafts to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Stock up on our recycled craft rolls for the whole school to use for various crafts.

An easy and fun craft suggestion to share with your staff is creating recycled leprechaun rolls. These are a decoration that can be placed around the school in various high-traffic areas. Students can transform their recycled roll into a leprechaun using different materials such as coloured paper, felt tips and pipe cleaners.

St Patrick’s day treat box

Sometimes, as an SBM, it is easy to detach yourself from your staff due to the heavy workload. So why not treat your staff by creating a St Patrick’s Day treat box?

With a few standard supplies, any sort of box can be changed into a themed treat box. Source a box and wrap craft paper in St Patrick’s colours around it. Create decorations of your choice from card and then fill them with all different kinds of treats. Once you have filled the box, take it into the staff room and spread joy to your staff on the day, giving them a much-needed treat.

You could even encourage your staff to create one for their class too as a reward for their student's hard work.

Inspire your staff to create these St Patrick’s Day crafts with their class and even have a go yourself when you have the time. Stock up on all the essentials you will need ahead of the day and get your school in the spirit to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Ensure that all staff are fully prepared and have everything they need, so every class are doing an activity for the day.
