Bring Science, Design & Technology, and Maths to life for Year 5 students with this hands-on, ready-to-teach project. Fully aligned to the National Curriculum, this all-encompassing, easy-to-implement project engages students in a series of interactive and practical activities to solve a real-world design challenge:

In Silly Straws Challenge, Frothy Fruit Company sells drinks from travelling stalls around the city. They want to sell Silly Straws for their drinks, but there is limited space on the stall! Students develop design specifications based on research, criteria, and constraints; create annotated sketches, models, and prototypes; conduct comparative and fair tests; and develop mathematical skills in the context of budgeting, as they create point-of-sale display stands for the fun curly straws.

  • Provides 2 hours of teaching time split into four 30 minute lessons
  • Includes everything needed to start teaching, right out of the box, saving up to 12 hours of planning and preparation time
  • Meets National Curriculum for England (2014) attainment targets in Science, Design & Technology, and Maths
  • Ideal for classes and after-school clubs of 24-30 students.
