How do the Storytelling Scenes help you and your pupils?

• They can be used to retell and plan stories, developing essential speaking and listening skills and laying the foundations of storytelling language and patterns.

• They build children’s confidence as they can use the kits to create their own stories using characters, settings and objects that are familiar to them.

• Children of a range of different abilities can use them by having more or fewer accessories to stick to the scene when they are creating their stories.

• They take away the fear of the blank page during independent writing as children can use the scenes to ignite their stories before committing pen to paper.

Each kit contains…

A4 Story Scene - Depicting a stimulating scene for children to fix the story accessories to and build their story scenes. The design of the scene reflects the story type of each kit (Adventure Stories, Magic and Myths, Traditional Tales). The scene fits neatly on a child’s desk and can be used by individuals, pairs or small groups.

Approx. 120* Stick-on Story Accessories - These hardwearing felt images can be applied to the story scene so that children can retell, innovate and create completely new stories. The accessories will stay put when you apply them to the scene and are easy to move around and remove. The character, setting and objects can be combined in many different ways to create an almost limitless number of story scenes.

Teacher’s Notes - Written by Kaye Haywood and Sean Powers and edited and with a foreword and tips throughout by Pie Corbett, this booklet gives you ideas of what you can do with the resource as well as tips on teaching storytelling in your school.
