Fun Easter activities to do for your school
Fun Easter activities to do for your school
With the Easter break fast approaching at the end of the week, SBMs need to think about Easter activities for kids. These can be done over the last couple of days before the break or on the last day to make sure students have fun and wind down. These activities can be shared with your staff so the whole school participates. You can also hold events and activities that you have planned for your school to join in with.
To help you with some Easter activity ideas, we have created a list of fun Easter activities to do for your school.
Encourage eco-friendly crafts
A great way to get your school involved in Easter celebrations is by encouraging your staff to do eco-friendly crafts with their students. Recyclable crafts are perfect for cutting your school's waste and repurposing materials that children can have fun with.
There are plenty of different eco crafts your school can create, from Easter bunny toilet rolls to egg carton chicks. Prepare for reusing materials and buying recyclable supplies in bulk so there is plenty to choose from.
Stock up on bi-coloured card to use for any crafts your staff are planning. This card is perfect for being extra creative with and is recyclable too, meaning any excess card can be disposed of correctly in a safe, environmentally friendly way. Consider bulk buying our recycled coconut shell flower shapes that are the best to use for Easter and spring crafting. Students can create unique Easter crafts with these whilst repurposing coconut shells, reducing waste.
Hold an Easter-themed assembly
Educate your school on the meaning of Easter through an Easter-themed assembly. This is perfect to do for the last day of term assembly, especially for younger children who may not know why we celebrate Easter. Delve into the story of Easter and how it started whilst showing how this has changed over time.
Plan little interactive activities such as a quiz to persuade students to engage and listen. You can also invest in Easter goodies, such as a small pack of mini eggs for everyone as a gift. Doing this sets the fun tone of the last day and gets students excited and ready to unwind.
Hold a baking day
Offer tasty treats to your school through an enjoyable Easter baking day. Invite baking professionals from your local area, such as your local bakers, to show students different recipes and guide them. This can be held in the school kitchen or food tech labs if you have them. Students can participate with the professionals and create quick treats from start to finish whilst learning everything that baking entails. Plus, allow them to take their tasty treats home with them.
Stock up on baking essentials to ensure you have enough baking supplies such as mixing bowls, trays, whisks and rolling pins. To have all the pieces your school needs, consider purchasing a baking set.
Have your school create and give gifts
One of the kindest fun Easter activities to do for your school is creating and giving Easter gifts. Encourage your staff to create Easter gifts with their class. These can be as simple as making cards that students can give to their loved ones or decorating their own Easter eggs. Bulk buy assorted card, felt tips, paint and accessories, like pom poms. Consider purchasing last-minute Easter materials too, such as large polystyrene eggs your school can use on the last day of term.
Inspire your school to give Easter gifts to each other. This could be something students have made for each other or small chocolates. You can do the same for your staff to show your appreciation for their hard work. Make small Easter treat boxes or baskets with all different types of treats, from chocolate to candles. Add in anything you would like to put a smile on their faces before the holidays.
Hold an Easter egg hunt
An activity that’s perfect for younger students and a way to involve the whole school in celebrations is by holding an Easter egg hunt. Gather staff volunteers to help you hide Easter eggs around the school and set up riddles for the children to crack. For older students, tie in a subject with the egg hunt, such as maths, with coordinates and sums to figure out. This makes a simple egg hunt more difficult and age-appropriate.
Put on a school Easter basket competition
Mix crafting with a school-wide competition to interest students with participating in the Easter fun. A great competition to hold is Easter baskets. Encourage students to make their own creative Easter baskets and choose the best ones with your staff. Offer a fantastic prize which could be Easter baskets filled with treats, so students strive to enter and have the chance of winning an exciting prize.
Make a last-minute Easter purchase to ensure there are plenty of make an Easter basket kits to go around your school. Ensure that you have all the extras needed for students to make creative baskets, such as feathers, felt pens, gems and easter eggs.
Put on a show
Invite your school to watch an Easter show. This could be a piece performed by a local theatre company that students can watch and enjoy, or an Easter panto that students put on for the school. This is a perfect activity to do for the last day of term as something to get students away from working and allow them to relax.
Children can socialise with others through acting and devising performances for the school. There could even be opportunities for students to involve themselves in creating set pieces for the stage and costumes. You could host a mix of year groups together to perform or each year group do different scenes of a panto. Invite parents to watch so that children feel comfortable performing and even find time to watch yourself and relax for a short period of time.
Plan an Easter fair/fun day
One of the best Easter activities for kids to consider doing on the last day of term is an Easter fair/fun day. Organise with your staff a day full of opportunities to buy treats and gifts as well as holding fun games that students can play.
Ask local companies to be a part of the day and set up a variety of stalls, from crafts to home-cooked treats. As well as this, reach out to local activity experts such as face painters and sports companies to provide a range of games and activities all based on Easter for the day. Plan with staff the types of stalls, games and activities you would like and what would work. Invite parents to volunteer to help to make this Easter fair/fun day an experience the students will never forget.
This could be done to raise money for a local charity that you want your school to support too. Research charities and choose the best fit for your school with the help of your staff. Doing this allows students to have fun whilst feeling good about themselves as it’s for a great cause.
Plan these fun Easter activities to do for your school with your staff and make the last few days of this term as enjoyable as possible. SBMs should strive to make the end of a term engaging and steer away from the usual lessons so that students and staff can unwind and start to relax. Attend these activities yourself as well to give you a well-deserved rest before the Easter holidays. Join in on the fun as much as possible and celebrate the beginning of Easter with your school.
